Did you know that the Smurfs (or Schtroumpfs in French) were designed by a Belgian artist? But the Smurfs are not the only example of Belgian creativeness. Belgium and, most particularly, Brussels is the comic capital par excellence. You might have heard of world-known comic series The Adventures of Tintin or Lucky Luke, but there are many others.
If you visit Brussels, you’ll probably by amazed at the great number of comic murals that are scattered around the city. There’s so many that there’s actually an itinerary you can follow, what is know as the Comic Book Route. However, it’s virtually impossible to see them all. That’s why I’ve picked the top murals so you know exactly where to go. Keep reading!

Comic Book Route: Top Murals in Central Brussels
First of all, I’d like to clarify that murals are not limited to Brussels city center. You can also find them in other less well-known neighborhoods, especially in Laeken (Atomium area).
That said, I’m very aware that time is often limited. For this reason, I’ve opted to focus only on those that are located in the heart of Brussels, more easily accessible for visitors. For a comprehensive list of all the murals that make up the Comic Book Route, you can visit this website or buy the brochure « Brussels, the comic strip capital » for just €2.50 at the visit.brussels information desks.
My favorite: Odilon Verjus, which intermingles with the real Palais de Justice. What’s your top pick?
